I find myself chatting with customer support reps often. Whether I’m pursing a refund on Amazon or trying to negotiate a bill with Xfinity — there are nuances to customer support chats that can result in dramatically different outcomes.

Today’s prompt is a bit unique in that you’ll be keeping ChatGPT by your side during an entire customer support conversation. ChatGPT will provide you with specific messages to send to customer support reps depending on what they’re saying to you, all with the intention of getting the result you desire.

Recommended AI model: GPT-4 or GPT-3.5

I’m live chatting with a customer support representative from [ WEBSITE/COMPANY ]. My goal with this conversation is to [ STATE GOAL/HOPEFUL OUTCOME OF SUPPORT CHAT ].

You will be roleplaying as the customer in this conversation. I’m going to send you the exact messages that the customer support representative sends me, one by one. After each message I send, I want you to give me a short response that moves the conversation towards the outcome I desire. These responses should feel casual and imperfect (but convincing), as if an actual user is sending them.

I will continue to provide you with whatever the representative sends me, and I need you to send a relevant response each time. Here is the first message:

what to expect

ChatGPT will take on the persona of a politely pleading customer, providing a finely-tuned response for every representative-provided message you send it. You can sit back, copy-and-paste, and enjoy watching the conversation unfold between the two participants.

While this prompt requires a bit more engagement, it’s well worth it. Customer support representatives are trained on “the customer is always right”, and when you have an AI serving as the customer there’s not much that can go wrong.
