Handy Prompts: Proofreader

AI corrections and suggestions to improve your writing.

Everyone hates proofreading their own stuff. We already wrote the content, why do we have to expend the energy to go back through and double check our work? Today we have a simple prompt that can help make this remedial tasks a bit less daunting.

This prompt instructs our AI companion to parse through your written content and identify necessary corrections. Additionally, ChatGPT will suggest larger-scale changes to your writing that may make it better overall.

prompt ➡️

I’m going to send you a chunk of my writing. I need you to proofread this writing, identifying any specific errors and presenting fixes for them as actionable bullet points. Additionally, send a copy of my writing with the changes you’ve suggested applied (please highlight where the changes are made).

Please also give me any pointers or tips you feel could improve this chunk of writing. Be explicit in the advice you’re providing.

Below is the writing:

what to expect

Specific changes will be listed in bullets, and the full text will be sent back to you with the changes made and highlight (generally in bold). This will allow you to approve, or not, the changes ChatGPT has decided to make. I generally find that the changes it suggests are valuable, but like any proofreader (human or AI) it tends to play things safe and make fairly critical suggestions.

ChatGPT will also give you pointers on your writing. These can be things like “You should provide more detail on…” or “Provide specific examples about…”. Generally I’ve found the advice this bot gives is fairly solid, and should help improve your writing.
